Ahh, that might not work kind of a small 'footprint' if you do that. - N

Something more along the lines of this to keep them busy, and hunting.

Kind of a small picture, but some fake vines, leaves, rope etc will go along way. I'm guessing since he's a hunter if he doesn't have something to keep his attention that's when they start getting a little loopy and problems start to arise. - N

Do they climb at all? If he's going to be as small as I guess, in relation to that box what do you think about turning it on end, and getting a lot more brances, with some fake leaves (assuming he won't chew on them) and making it an 'arboreal' enclosure? Assuming they climb, you know what I'm saying? - N

Yes i plan to put alot more branches in there + some other stuff for him to climb. The pic you posted gives some good ideas. Thanks. I think some ropes would be a really cool idea. I also think about something to make him "work" for his food.
I got him now. I did put him in his new home He looked at evrything and then went into his house sleeping. He is really cool and funny. Here look in his transportbox.

The plates do not absorb water. You are aware of the concept of impregnation and waterproofing? :)

The "tiny ventilation hole" is one of 8. It does not drink from a bottle at start, infact opossums need constant view of water. They can easly dehydrate. Bottles are a main reason for that. They must be slowly adapted for the use of bottles. I won't comment the clown part of your comment. But hey you think an old aquarium tank is a good home for a chinese water dragon (thats what your last sentence implies...).

Actually, you are wrong about the water bottle. Do a little research, it will pay off.

Also, you didn't address your total lack of an even feeble attempt to make his habitat look natural. You have gone on and on for days telling others how their bare-bottom tanks are not acceptable to house polypterus, yet this possum gets a chipboard box with eight tiny ventilation holes. I thought cruelty to animals was illegal in Germany - you had better be careful...

My last sentence was just there because for once I can totally agree with a statement you made - your enclosure is in no way a proper home for that species.

It does not drink from the water bottle. I offer him both. The breeder told me how i train him on that.

Beside that, get your facts straight. You don´t even know the right species. Possums are from Australia and look like that:

That shorttail opossum is a completly different species and comes from south america.

"Possum" is the vernacular for "Opossum" here in the U.S. Apparently you don't understand the difference between a common name and a genus/species name?

It is interesting how you completely ignore any point that you don't have an answer to.

You are the one that asked for a critique of your enclosure. Did you just want people to pat you on the back and say "good job"? It is poorly designed and built and in no way reflects the animal's natural habitat. It is fairly large, which is good, but other than that it doesn't have much going for it.

After reading your rants about people's unnatural tanks it is quite surprising to find that your Opossum is living in a pile of paper towels and toilet-paper tubes...

I don't use common names. Its an Opossum, not a possum. Get used to it. The paper towels and toilet paper tubes were in his transport box. The pics show him in his transportbox. It gave him shelter and he had something to cuddle himself into.

serious, whats the sense to tell me to get a pet that i like is pointless? All pets are pointless then. Think about that. I´m happy with my possum.

You don't use common names? You have been using common names exclusively. :nilly: Actually, you have never once used the scientific name (Monodelphis domestica) in this thread. In fact, in the first post I quoted you called it a "possum". For someone who claims to be so smart you sure write some stupid posts...

nitrogen narcosis much?

either way, his name is Jack Possum. He actual reacts when his name is called. I find it amazing how tame he is. I just build him a hunting area in his enclosure. I'll put insects in it and some grass ect. He can go in, but the insects can't get out. I also plan to build him a small labyrinth..
