Do you think it was from a lack of food? I remember a while ago you were posting about how you wanted to get rid of some of your Gars because you couldn't afford to feed them anymore. Maybe this recession is more serious than I first thought. :irked:

Definitely not from lack of food. The only fish that eat better than the gars are the stingrays.

I don't have any trouble affording food for them, its just more expensive than I'd like it to be. Although with them eating mostly pellets and shrimp now, its not as bad as when I needed to use feeders.

I've got a pretty good stock up of food, so no shortage there.

spat, def not food. that is a very well fed shorty. bout the size of mine. and mine eats like a pig.

conner, u have to get some!! experiment with shipping and get that down too!!
maybe i can help with some LNG later in the year or maybe even next. I got to get out and do some searching for them. of course if anybody(sol and richard) knows were they are or have any tips to help my search it would be greatly apprecieated..... hint hint hint ;)

^ Let me know if you find a source for Longnose's. I'll buy from you if you have a private source or catch some yourself.

ill let u know when i go

That shorty was about 13", I think. I'll have to measure it exactly tonight when I get home (if I remember). My largest two are right at 17-18", and the next one down is probably about 14". The other two are more like 10" and 12", I think.

What are you feeding yours?

shrimp and tilapia mainly. feeders rarely.
He just wont get any wieght on him(bout the thickness of urs) and has grown to bout 13" maybe alittle over.
He eats like a pig. then 2 days later its all gone!! literally all the wieght is gone. lol.

Yah, mine don't really seem to keep much weight on them either, unlike the florida gars (I think I could starve them for two weeks and they'd still look fat).

My largest two are still slimmer than Florida's, but they seem to be keeping weight a little better. It seems like they kind of put all their energy into growing until they get around 1.5 feet, then maybe they slow down growth and start putting on girth. I don't know, I guess we'll find out over the next couple months or so (unless they end up going to Solomon).
