Received this juvi today. He seems about as skittish as most shortnose's. His back has been arching slightly every so often, but I am hoping that is just ammonia burn issues from the overnight delivery. I've noticed it in gars before after a shipment and it usually goes away quickly.

Anyways, a few lousy photos!

And one of my Florida from this morning.

Awesome. I just moved this little guy over to my 56g wide for a month or so grow-out. He was getting too much "attention" from the big boys.

looking good! tank seems a little too big for a shorty that size though, mind sharing the size of the fish vs size of the tank vs size & species of the tankmates?

Spot on... read my post above yours.

Tank was a 4'x2'x30" growing out some beasties. The shortnose received a nip on his tail after a few minutes in the tank by an unknown assailant so I moved him to a 30"x18"x25".

His new tankmates are 1x 3" bowfin, 1x 2.5" marbled sleeper goby, 1x 5" tiretrack eel, 1x 4" american datnoid. The gar himself is about 5".

Nice! I got mine last month and they grow fast. Got mine at 4" and now they are at 13". Eat like pigs too. Of all the gars that I have keep, they are the fastest learners on how to eat prepared foods.
Did they really grow 9 inches in a month?

you know spotted gars live all the way from michigan to florida i could catch one up here but you don't see alot
