Shortnose gars arrived today...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm waiting for him to get back from vacation as well.

Lepisosteus platyrhincus, sorry to hear the bad news. Hopefully he will get it right. He should call the people at Aquascapeonline, they have shipped plenty of fish and they usually always come though OK. They sent me a Motoro stingray and it took 2 days when it was supposed to be overnight and he showed up in good condition. They used super thick bags with a Styrofoam container.

yeah i believe the gar bit right threw the bags. they were some nice thick guys. very impressive specimens. too bad they didnt make it.
he said he will send some when he gets back. he is very nice person and i think he will make it right.

I definitely second this though. He's a great guy. Just bad luck shipping so far... And the gar I got before were great specimens as well.

yeah it really really sucks. hes on vaca so we have to wait for awhile. hopefully he will check with a vendor who can tell him how to ship. they are some great and fat(and i do mean fat) gar. they are fatter than my two younger florida gar.

one of mine was double bagged. it bit threw those as well. he needs thicker bags. lol. but he is a great guy and will make things right, i think

Not trying to be negative and just trying to help but if the pic posted was a pic of how he was going to ship the bag that is the problem. They have to be taunt like a balloon just keep twisting them before you rubberband them.then when you put the second bag on put the first bag in upside down so there is no corners for the gar to get their nose stuck in. Push all of the air out of the outer bag so that it forms a second skin around the first. Placing them in a tupperware container might not be the best idea as most likely the air will escape first sealing the fish in a colasped bag full of water. It might also intensify any heat they experience during shipping...

im gonna try and get him to talk to a vendor who has some exsperience with shipping gar. he'll get it!! im just glad he realises mistakes and takes steps to correct them. more than i can say for some people.

I once had a gar that jumped out of the tank and stayed on the floor waterless for almost 20 hrs. It survived and lived for another 4 yrs! How sad you gars didn't make it.
