i have a 12” silver arowana and i feed him floating carnivore pellets and feeder fish but ive read that he can also eat pinky mice. are those actually good for the arowana? i know they eat them in the wild but should they eat mice in captivity. and if so how often should i give him a pinky mouse

In the wild Silver Arowana cruise the surface for insects so possibility of eating a mouse is l don't know never heard of anyone feeding mice and agree with The Masked Shadow The Masked Shadow . I personally would stick with feeding pellets and give the Silver a live Cricket as a treat.

Not sure you need to but in the wild, they do eat rodents, baby birds/ducklings, lizards, or whatever they get the opportunity to eat. But they’d probably do best on fish and inverts like shrimp or bugs…or just pellets that are formulated for carnivorous fish.

Not sure of the nutritional value/digest ability but there’s a shop in the area I used to go to that had a HUGE arowana that would eat rats. It was definitely impressive to see, but water got EVERYWHERE with how aggressively the aro would hit a live rat.
Even if it’s nutritious/natural, I’ve seen enough snakes bitten by rats to be too afraid to try it with anything bigger than a fuzzy.

Mice, being mammals, would make up such a close-to-zero percentage of a wild arowana's diet that it isn't even worth considering. Will they be eaten if offered? Sure, on occasion...but so will heater suction cups. Maybe we should consider adding those to the recommended food intake?

Live rats to an arowana? Cruel, stupid, potentially dangerous...that pet store near you sounds like it's run by a bunch of psychopaths.

Stick to proper fish food for fish, food which has been developed specifically with fish in mind.

If you insist on feeding mice to anything.....get a snake!

And don't even get me started on live mice, or rats, or frogs, or chicks. As jjohnwm jjohnwm said, that type of feeding is for psychos.

Yeah there’s a reason I haven’t been back
