I was about to "like" Esox's post just above mine but I see that I can't do it right now.

I've just noticed that on the, "monster fish keepers award and nominations" sub forum, the option to "like" a post isn't even there!!!! It's not a gliche, it simply wasn't there in the first instance it would seem.

This goes for all "normal" and "sticky" threads within this sub forum.

See, look below to the right....no "like" option.

Strange.

Fastfreddy17 Fastfreddy17 has been on this forum since 2018 and has already earned a bronze medal making him reputable. His tank has been documented in the thread mentioned by me in which he clearly states the dimensions of his tank, making it approximately 1800 gallons. Several members have already seen that thread. Judging by this, i don't know why you guys are typing "if he qualifies". He most definitely qualifies.
I have talked to a few mods who have confirmed that he indeed does qualify but due to C Chicxulub retirement there is currently no mod to give him the award.

Otherwise, thanks for voting for him.
oh, I was in no way doubting what you said. I was merely supporting you and Fastfreddy on your word.

I beg to differ jjohnwm jjohnwm . There are numerous members on this site, some of which are new while others are here since the beginning of MFK. Those who have been on the site for years have enough experience and knowledge to give solid advice to new fellow aquarists. Their messages have been liked by many, creating their reputation for giving good ideas, options, etc. This allows to distinguish between new, inexperienced MFK members(or aquarists) and more experienced, reputable members.

As for the awards, MFK has grown over the past years and a majority of members aren't' True' monster fish keepers (no offense). They usually have small tanks. These awards help true MFKers to get recognized and appreciated, while making it more easy for other MFKers to receive advice about large tanks, monster fish, etc from specific true MFKers. Similarly other awards help distinguish members who have made useful contributions to the website, acheived something new, etc.

Last but not least, the forum has matured over the years and there are a lot of MODs to manage the website. Most of the initial bugs and problems of the website have been fixed, thus i see no other major issues with the website except for the retirement of C Chicxulub .
Eh, I personally don't think it matters.
If someone has no idea what they're talking about, it's usually pretty obvious; and more often than not they're quickly corrected by another user. MFK, being one of the few continuously-active fishkeeping forums still in existence, can afford to maintain a good reputation because of the sheer number of active members who have substantial experience and can offer sound advice. If anyone browses the forum for even just a few minutes, it's easy enough to roughly tell who has experience and who doesn't; awards won't change anything about that, and the site was running just fine when awards weren't being distributed anyhow.

As for the "true" MFK thing, does it really matter all that much? There's few forums left with knowledgeable members as it is; and MFK's never been strict about what sort of fish can be discussed or not. There was a time when I kept "monster" fish- TSNs, marble acharas, clown featherbacks, etc. Did I do a good job? Hell no. Which is why I stopped. That doesn't mean I can't give out useful advice, especially on fundamental matters that don't just specifically apply to 'monster' fish.

The few mods on this forum have somewhat limited power; they can manage and edit posts of other people, but not much more than that- a major error in the programming of the site would shut it down until someone like neoprodigy can fix it. We've been thankful enough to avoid site crashes thus far, but that can't last forever.

No offense, but why do you seem so adamant to nominate Fastfreddy17 for the silver award? He's been a long-time member, but hasn't particularly contributed much information-wise, especially compared to some more active members (not that there's anything wrong with that at all); which sort of defies your logic for why awards should be handed out.

He has met the qualifications for an award, he was noticed by abominus abominus , AR1 made a thread saying he has met the qualifications and should be given the award. The qualifications for the awards are laid out clearly and there’s no question about whether he has met them or not. End of discussion, this has gone on for far longer than it should have and is quite frankly ridiculous in my opinion
