Should I Add an Fx5?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm all for overfiltering an over stocked tank. With that said, if your not showing any ammonia or nitrite, is it truly necessary to add more filters? Seems like it could be just adding more work by adding another filter to clean.

Agree....

If your water parameters are good, I suspect they are minus nitrates, I will ditch adding FX5....or lighten up the stock...

With your current setup, need a bigger and increase frequency of water change is the way to go.

Overfiltration --- yes it exist....you don't slap an FX5 into a 20 gallons :)

how much lighting do you need? I have room to add two photos plants.

almost none. I have some on my 300 and I don't even turn my light on anymore. Whatever light the plant receives must be enough as its erect as can be.

ERECT huh? What a choice of word you got! LOL

Adding filters does nothing to the need for water changes. Won't reduce nitrates in any way, and may end up increasing them if ya don't clean all the filters regularly since it's another place gunk can hide.
That said, I love over filtration. Flow management is easy, redundancy is great!
