got a 30 gal with a 1/2 inch chip but didn't touch the silicon and i still fill the water to the top brim with no problem and it has been running for 5 yrs with no sign of moisture or anything... but that's a 180 gal meaning it has tons of water in it. better safe than sorry and in no offense the price it to much, although it is in Hawaii. got my 180 with custom built stand for about 1,500 and that's acrylic.
