Subject: Flowerhorn not eating from yesterday night.

Hello all, I'm quite new to this forum and I am quite excited to meet new people, thank you for the opportunity.

Setup:
Now, I bought a flowerhorn 4 days ago, today is day 5. He is around 3-4 inches, he is in a 15 gallon tank(I know it is small but I will build a new bigger one in another 3 months, I can't afford one now).
Now, the temperature in the tank is 30°C and I am not too sure about the pH. From what I have been doing, it should be neutral. I have a sand+gravel substrate with few shells, rocks and pebbles. In the tank, there is also a common pleco.

My fish is quite active and he keeps swimming around happily. He is spooked at times and hides behind the filter. I guess this is because he is not used to me yet but when no one is around the tank, he keeps swimming around. But from yesterday, he is usually hanging around the filter(where I have also installed the heater). Now, I was feeding him medium sized pallets and he loved it. He was happy he kept eating how much ever I gave him, but I kept an eye for the bulge in his belly. Now, yesterday I got shrimps for him (dried, not frozen). I gave him one, he put it inside his mouth, spit it and did that for a couple of times. Then he didn't eat, he just let it be there. So I thought maybe he isn't hungry, so I didn't feed him yesterday night. Today morning, I tried with the shrimp again, he came near it, looked disinterested, and he turned away. Later I thought I'll just give him pallets(which he loves). And I gave him pallets, he took some time, came around and ate the pallet. But he spit it out again, and nothing then after. He is still active, he is swimming around but he isn't eating and sometimes he just hides behind the filter for no reason. Should I do something different? I am pretty sure my nitrogen cycle is fine because of all the substrate, the ceramic rings, the shells etc. I even had activated carbon for couples of hours in the water on the third day or so. What to do?

Thank you.Screenshot_20191105-072233.png

How long have you had the 15 gallon up and running? Also did you allow the aquarium to completely cycle?
The complete cycle of a aquarium can take weeks.

Still getting used to the tank likely. I would just wait it out and try refeeding the pellet. Can mix some bloodworm juice with the pellets. Would also check ur water as u want to be sure the water isn’t an issue.

Also reduce ur temp to 25-26 degrees Celsius. No need for the high temps.

Hello tlindsey, thank you. So, my aquarium has been up and running for quite a while. I have had it for at least 8 years and I have always had fishes in them. The last fishes in them was a common pleco (which is still there), a domestic albino shark and a gold fish. They had grown quite big and that was the reason I gave them away and got the flowerhorn. Now after I gave it away I had the tank totally cleaned up (I didn't clean up the substrate and the ceramic rings was a recent thing after I got the flowerhorn). All I did was complete water change, clean the interior algae build up. Then I just put the fish in. From what I know, shouldn't the good bacteria be there already? ready to do the nitrogen cycle? [Because of all the rocks, substrate and so on]

What are the ways to check my water? I don't have a pH meter or any sort of physical instruments to actually measure its quality.

Yes there will be some bacteria. Are the Ceramic rings in a filter?

Also like to add if you change water and don't use a Dechlorinator you will kill the bacteria in the aquarium.
