should i boil bogwood/root

The best method is to precariously balance large stones on top of it at sharp angles.

any update for us? was the banana root as tannin-laden as other woods? I recently picked up a piece of grapewood (yes I have heard all the mixed feedback on it). I boiled it to get the tannins out. It also seems that boiling it releases the air held in the wood faster. This seems to help it waterlog a lot faster than other methods. I plan on growing a TON of java moss on it and maybe even making a bonsai. Have fun and post some pics of your progress!

interesting piece!! i got a new piece in my 120 almost 2ft long. it took about a week to sink. i didnt boil it or anything though?? my water has been fine/ crystal clear.

From the look of it, you shouldnt get too much Tannin out of that piece. Its already almost white! I use Mopani wood in my natural tank & it sinks right away, but its so dark it leeches tannin for weeks. I boil it in saltwater for a few hours, then soak it for a few days in a cooler full of warm water.

does mopani rot slower than grapewood? I hear mixed things abot both wood but i know that mopani is sold specifically for aquariums and i dont know of anywhere that sells gapewood as such
