how did he get it for free

Not even sure I want to know, I think it was to pay a "debt".

Same negotiation as buying a used car, walk in planning to walk away without it puts you in a stronger negotiating position.Of course you have to see whats there before making an offer.Ive noticed something that seems to just be true in upstate new york people seem to think used tanks are worth more than new tanks.

The best way to go about it is: When you call him, let him know you have not made up your mind but you NEED to see the tank and accessories first. When you walk in give it the "Yuck" look and see what he says. Then go from there. Make sure he doesn't get the impression you really like it or he wont negotiate on the price. I wouldn't go over $100 for the setup, simply because it is used and who knows what shape it's in.:cool-1:

Dang you all rock, good advice given. my 2 cents, if you plan to buy new stuff for it, and only plan to use the tank it's self, figure out what the cost of new tank bare vs old tank bare. It'd have to be real cheap considering you don't get any warranty or anything.

If it had salt water in it I would tell him to get a damp rag and wipe it at the top and tell him if it clouds back up that it will need a very expensive cleaning to be used as a fresh water tank and when it clouds back up start haggling ;)

He got rid of most of the "stuff" all thats left is the tank, stand, cover, & a few misc items.

I offered him 100, he said "I gadda tink aboudit"

He who speaks next looses. :naughty:

It's a waiting game now.... :nilly:
