Should i change my substrate from gravel to sand ?

I have done gravel and sand, I prefer gravel. all my fish diggers, much easier to suck up into the vacuum tube and let it sift back out to fill the holes and even back out. i do not get the poo issues but again all my fish are large diggers, they force me to vacuum well every week.

in the end its a personnel preference. easy to go back to gravel and visa versa.

I also have done both sand and gravel. I like both as far as looks go. I have sand specifically for my geophagus. Having said that sand will wreak absolute havoc on power filters making them noisy and ultimately having to replace impellers. I am close to switching to sponges just for this reason. Much less maintenance. Just my .02
