my tank is spotless, i do 50% wc each week. but i notice theyre some type of brownish gunk on my fake plants. its either algae wich is what im assuming or bacteria wich cud be good. does anyone know what it is , should i just take them out and rinse them or no?

Yes u can I will.. almost.. boil my plants to clean them don't get it to hot or they will melt. U should have plenty of bacteria in ur filter n else where. or just stick in shower n blast some of it off.

Probably just algae. I've never boiled my plants to clean them but I hope it works cuz scrubbing them doesn't clean them enough. I think over time the color fades regardless. Good luck and let us know what you did and how it worked out for you.

One thing to be mindful of is silk plants are usually only good for a year then they start to breakdown...Discolor...then they start separating...May or may not be your case...Best thing I have found to clean with is White Vinegar...It does amazingly well spray it down wipe it off then rinse it off thoroughly then you should be good to go

Best and easiest way to clean plastic plants is to place them in a bucket and add a denture cleaning tablet. Rinse in running water before returning plants to tank.

Hey, wow! I didn't know about that little trick! I think I'm going to have to go buy myself some of that stuff now. Except it will be funny to see me at the register buying denture tabs. Oh, what a conversation starter!
