agreed.

you know what they say. opinions are like uh..earlobes. everyone has one.

(well, thats not what they say, but "earlobes" is more forum friendly than the real saying :))
earlobes don't stink and USUALLY people have 2
the real saying, says it better...:D

Blaming the high failure rate of Stealth heaters on "user error" sounds like a response from a corporation. Many corporation's initial response to product failures is to attack the credibility of the customers who are complaining.

true. Toyota did this initially when the acceleration complaints started rolling in.

they blamed it on floor mats even if people had no floor mats..:screwy:

Calling it a "high failure rate" is moot as well.
Without knowing the amount of "units sold" vs "units with failure"

I would think the cheap Top Fin heaters, sold at department stores and the major pet store chains, has a larger installed base than Marineland. I cannot recall seeing a post about them failing.

Like 12 Volt Man, I frequent a number of fish forums. It is the Stealth owners who are reporting split tubes and electric shocks. They also seem to report more stuck-on heaters. My personal experience matches what is being reported by many others.

BTW - People's judgment of a product could also be skewed if they happen to sell Stealth heaters.

Comparing Toyota Motors and Marineland heaters is just ridiculous...
the liability factor that Toyota faces is in the Billions of dollars...Millions of Jobs etc. etc. etc.

We'll see where this all leads to, in the mean time I will continue to enjoy with full confidence my STEALTH heaters...

no one compared Marineland and Toyota.

the comment was made that blaming the problems on 'user error' sounds like something a big corporation would do.

I pointed out that Toyota did something like this initially with their problems as an example of such a tactic.

but there was no comparison made since Marineland has NOT done something like this.

and no one other than a MFKer has suggested that 'user error' is to blame.

Marineland has said nothing thus far, although from the link I posted, many hobbyists all over the web want their input.

no contradiction.

let me explain again:

the comment was made earlier that 'user error' might be to blame for all these problems. this comment was made by a board user, not Marineland. this is key.

someone pointed out that saying that was something that a big corporation would do, to shift blame away from themselves.

I pointed out a recent example of this with Toyota as proof that yes big corporations sometimes do stuff like this.

has Marineland done something like this? no.

Marineland has nothing to do with this example.

hence no contradiction at all.

unless Marineland comes out and blames it all on 'user error' when there is actually a product defect issue, then they have done nothing like what Toyota did.

in the mean time I will continue to enjoy with full confidence my STEALTH heaters...

this is good. I think it is important for people to stick with what they have had success with.

the hard part is the new people who come in and see all kinds of differing opinions, experiences etc.

after all, the heater is an important component of the hobby, as failures can lead to dead fish and shocked humans :)

For what it's worth, I do not sell nor have I ever sold a stealth heater, nor any other aquarium supplies...

I speak highly of stealth heaters having used well over a dozen of them in a very wide variety of situations over the course of quite a few years (since they came out).

Stealth heaters are not the only quality heater on the market, they are just the one I have put to the test and have become very fond of...

The two most common "user errors" I see causing problems is A) to strong of a heater for the tank & B) not allowing the heater to sit in the water no pluged in allowign the thermometer to regulate itself to the water's temp...

I am by no means saying all of you should throw out your heaters and switch to Stealths... but to those of you claiming Stealths are garbage I am sharing that I have ample personal experience displaying they are a high quality reliable heater...
