So, I have a chance to buy a black aro w/ the yolk sack from N-E Cichlids. I was planning on just doing a jar and not an SA aro anymore because of their size, but I shouldn't have to upgrade from my 210 for at least 2 years with a black starting at this size, which will be plenty of time for me to get a bigger tank (I will need at least a 300 w/ the jar, eventually, anyway). I know the risks of buying an aro at that size, but I have dreamed about the day I could find a baby black ever since I got back into this hobby and found out about arowanas. I guess, there is always a market for black aros, so I could sell it easily if I ended up needing to. I don't know if I will get rid of the jar or try to keep both the jar and the black together.

How much is the aro? I know FishRoomPlus has some bigger guys for like $225, and I bought mine from Rich at Infinite Aquatics for $150 and it was about 10"...maybe bigger.

I've just never heard many success stories about aros that size and I would hate to hear you paid good money and lost the thing in no time.

$100 shipped. I know it's a huge risk w/ any aro w/ a yolk sack, but blacks w/ the juvenile coloration are almost impossible to find. I also can't get a 10" fish as it will outgrow my 210 too quickly.

I know it will lose the coloration quickly, just FYI

Even with a 10" black aro I don't see a 210 being a problem for 2 years.

What are the dimensions on the tank? Does it have a 2' width?

yeah, its a 210 long (7x2x2)

Yeah, I think you'll be fine with that tank. You figure a 240 is a popular tank for some big aros, and that only adds a foot of length.

I still think I want to try a little black rather than getting one already at a decent size. I am going to decide by tomorrow for sure, but I'm leaning towards giving it a whirl. If I do it, I am also going to get one of his little juruense cats.

My black grew a lot slower than my silver. Don't keep it with a jar though. At that size, don't keep it with anything.

Paul, my black aro only grew 6 or 7" in the past year. Your 210g would be fine for a black aro for quite a while.

Also if you do decide to order let me know, I would like to go in with you on this and this should reduce the shipping costs.
