Should I do it?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sounds good, Brian. He said it will be $50 for overnight shipping. If we go halves on the shipping, I'm pretty confidant that I am going to do it. Would you want just one black or more or is there something else he has that you want? I will most likely order it tomorrow, so we would have to work out where I would have him ship it to depending on the time it would arrive on Friday, saturday if so. You can PM me. I already sent you a PM about my jag and trimac.

My black grew a lot slower than my silver. Don't keep it with a jar though. At that size, don't keep it with anything.

ya, it'll definitely be by itself for quite a while.

A black that size is so risky i would pay a little more and do a 10'' you rarely see black aro fry for sale to sensitive to transport. Your tank is fine for a long time i have seen huge aros happy in less ,if a 240g is regarded as the minimum i don't think one foot in length would make that much of a difference especially for a black. if you do a larger aro you can introduce it to a large tank with tank mates right away ,a fry is best in a small nursery tank no current and a sponge filter ,you get to play mommy

dont do it hahaha. I just got my 12" black from infinite myself and its badass, go with a 10" believe me you will like it. Don't mess with a small aro with yolk sac its asking for death imo.

Ive owned a few that started with Egg sacs both silver and black,
Black i grew out to about 13" and 2 silvers to 10"
I personally did not have any problems.

well, I'm going for it, just need to figure out the best scenario for it with what I have available. a sponge filter was suggested before, but I don't have one and don't have the time to seed one.

do you think this would be okay?:
20 gallon long (30x12.5x13, LWH) w/ fluval 3+ in-tank filter turned down so it's not making much current
also, i would put a divider in by the filter and heater so it would cut down the current even more and avoid heater burn.

how deep should I have the water? the filter and heater can lay on the side, so it won't need much room, which means I could have the water level as low as 6 inches, probably. would I need any extra oxygenation?

Well everything your doing seems fine to me though I dont have any experience on baby arowanas. Not sure about how high to put your water but I guess 6inch seems fine, my old 6" silver that I had in my 30gallon jumped out of a small crack in the back of the tank and I think the water was full to the top. So I guess 6inch seems fine and watch out for places were they can jump out of. Other than that wish you the best of luck with your new guy:)

Well, Bderick and I went in on it together and are both getting one each. We are delaying shipping until next Friday, though. I also ordered a small juruense cat, too :)

anyone else have an opinion on my proposed setup? i am going to make a DIY sponge filter as I can't seem to find any at the LFS around me. I will need to have it established before I can remove the in-tank, obviously.

PM me when you can, Brian. I need to get your last name for shipping and ask you about my female jag and "trimac". He said he will PM me that he got them shipped out on Thursday and they should arrive Friday.
