I have always just heard to put it in a freezer bag and but him in the freezer the rapid temp change should do the job pretty quick

I can't remember exactly. But I know I have read somewhere that putting it in the freezer is actually a rather slow and painful death for them. Something to do with the water freezing and crystalizing on their gills.

I hope you've killed the fish, it sounds like it is far gone and just lingering in pain at this point.

I'm luck that I haven't had to kill any fish yet... I've had 2 goldfish that had dropsy, but thankfully they died quickly.

I've heard clove oil, but my LFS guy says he chops the head off. Gruesome for a pet fish, but I'm sure it is as quick as can be.

I think it is most important that it is done quick - messy or not, think about the pain of the fish versus our emotions.

i would use the clove oil.i once had a african cic. that was missing for a day or two.i looked and looked and found him.some how he made his way up a massive piece of holy rock and wedged himself in a small hole trying to get out.i gently tried for a hour trying to get him out and i had to make a HARD decision to let him starve or die of stress or put him out of his misery. used clove oil and pulled him out. smashed the ____ rock in to pieces of that

It is indeed important the fish does not suffer painfully as it dies.

i dont have clove oil and i think freezing it is sorta bad. and im not going to cut its head off. maybe i will just double bag it and slam it into a wall. quicks and painless?

Clove Oil is the best way . sorry for your lose

dude unfortunetly i had to do this before just do a real quick slice right behind the head deep enough to sever the spine it worked really fast for me i know its hard to do but it is a lil easier then cutting the entire head off, and slaming into the wall has the chance of u slowing down instinctivly to not hurt the fish if u kno what i mean
