I have the oppotunity to get a BGK (black ghost knife) from either Asia or from South America.

The one from Asia will be about 3 inches long. And I am assuming it will be farm bred as BGKs are South American fish.

The one from South America will be over 12 inches and supposedly wild caught.

1. Which one in your opinions will be hardier, ie; easier to maintain?

2. Which one will grow larger?

Thanks a bunch

i'd say the wild one would be beter because it had to survive to 12" the othe was taken care of. the wild on might be more aggresive though. i have 2-8"ers that were "tank rasied" and they get along fine.

hmm... never considered aggression as a factor.
thanks for your $0.02

keep it coming guys and gals...

Large BGK are considered sacred by locals so they don't really collect the large ones. You're better off getting CB ones...it's better for the environment anyways.

CB = captive bred?

yeah, i'm leaning towards the captive bred ones too... i like the experience of growing them out.

lol, two different opinions.

I'd go for the wild one, just becuase he's survived long enough to get to 12+ inches... and its bigger.... lol

is that your zebra knife in your avatar? beautiful!

wild caught is more likely to carry parasites if that helps
