Should I get a Gar?

Sure, i aggree with the above posters, but...only you can judge if you O is a gentle giant or an aggressive bully.
In my case, what may be an exception, my O is very gentle and has never shown any aggression. I introduced my gar to the tank and strangly the have become huntingmates.
they roam the tank together and are both handfed.
But it totally depends on the character of the Oscar.
I posted this vid before, it's my gar and oscar roaming around, looking for food.

My eel would pester a 2" fish to death, gar or not. Yours might do the same.

the only way you can make it work with the oscars is to make sure all parties are about the same size and you need to introduce the gars to the tank first or oscars and gars at the same time. oscars get territorial. i have 2 gars and 2 oscars and a silver arowana together and it's harmonious, but i introduced the silver first then the gars and the oscars came last. but there are always exceptions and good luck.

well, the store was closed. maybe it's a good thing.
The gar and the oscar are about the same size length wise, but maybe because the gar is a thinner fish, the oscar with bother him.
i also hand fee my oscar, he's like a little puppy and gets very excited when it's feeding time.
as far as me eels go, they are really gentle creatures and all 3 of them chill together most of the time. i would be more concerned about the gar going for my tt.

Maybe I should put the oscar in another tank and slap the gar into the oscar's tank for a couple weeks and then re-introduce the oscar.
that way he might not be so territorial?

Ok, so I took the plunge and bought the gar. He's a very cool looking guy. I'll post some pics when soon. The good news is that my oscar doesn't seem phased at all. They just keep out of each others way. I haven't seen him eat any bloodworms yet,so I think I'll get some guppies tomorrow. He should enjoy that.
