Should I get this????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I bought it. This thing is huge. It's 72(L)x36(H)x20(D). It's a little narrow, but the price was right. I have the link to the sticky on buffing out the scratches, is there a sticky on fixing cracks? The brace is cracked from the center to the edge, but I don't see any de-lamination from the side panel.

Post up pics, want to see what I missed out on! haha

Will do. I had to store it at my brother's place as he has a shop where we'll be doing the buffing and repair work. I'll start a thread on the process.

Hey, did you see the 315 gallon on CL in Lynchburg? That guy has a build thread here and I wanted to jump on it, but I don't have the room for an 8' tank at this point, but what a deal!!!

Yes I did, thank is sold I believe but still running at the guys house. Less than 20 minutes from me and never knew about it until I saw that posting, haha!

Do it, it's super easy and a sweet deal.

I'm guessing you're saying that the crack is from the center of the brace and not from the center of the tank from the left or right of the brace? I hope what I just said makes sense. Anyways, would it be better to just replace the whole brace? However, I don't know how I would get the old brace off, The Doctor

I wish I would have taken a picture last night when I picked it up. It has two 8x24 openings in the top, which leave a rim of like 6" on the front and back, the crack is on the back "rim" from the hole into the tank to the back of the tank. It doesn't go into the back panel, just the top piece is cracked (which won't ever come into contact with the water).

Anyone have ideas on how to weld this stuff? I have searched for acrylic repair and while there is a lot of info on buffing out scratches, I don't see any detailed instructions on how to actually repair a crack. Links or ideas?

Danke Schon!

It is simple. Go to your local plastics shop and get some Weld On Acrylic cement. I think it is #4 that is about as viscous as water. . You can split the crack with a razorblade, and then just apply some and will wick into the seam.

If you are worried about whether or not it will hold, you can add a piece of scrap acrylic across the scratch and use some Weld On and glue it over the crack.

It's a rough job, but you can see how I repaired my tank.

Thanks Pharaoh! Looks exactly like where mine cracked at. Glad it isn't a critical fault. And it sounds like you think that this will be structurally sound once it's welded, so I feel confident that I can take care of this. Thanks for the feedback. Guess the polishing aspect will be the hard part.
