I"m in the process of setting up my 210 gallon tank with decorating. Are bubble wands a good idea for large tanks? I want a natural looking tank, so I would have to hide the wand behind rock or something.

No. Just make sure the surface is agitated. I use power heads to break the surface on my tanks that I run canisters on.

Are lawn Gnomes natural looking lawn decor? I do not see a bubble wand as natural looking.

Some want to aerate the water without powerheads and such.
I like the natural look too. I don't have a wand, but a column with a blue LED over it for night time. The blue gives the rocks and plants below shimmer nicely and isnt' too bright.

Hiding it is the key. Look at the pics in my sig, I do my best to hide ALL cords, tubing, etc in my tank as that is a pet peeve of mine. It still bothers me that I can't hide my black tubing all the way as my suctions won't stick with the bubbles over them all the time.

If you hide the wand, it would work. I went with the bigger ball type stone that creates a very nice column.

Good Luck

ANY natural environment has lawn gnomes. They are an invasive species that have become everywhere.

In general, whats the best way to agitate the surface to add air?

I for one don't us it for my "larger" fish. As long as I have a filter/s and/or a power head breaking the water surface tension and a lot water movement, I know I'll be fine.

The reason being I don't use a air wands, air stone and what not is because the water temp is a little lower (78-82) then my grow out tank, QT tank and/or hospital tanks which I keep the temp at or about 85-87 thus needing more O2 for warmer water.

I like the look of clean and clear water. Air stones will add little bubbles I find annoying.

So long as airstones aren't visible, I see nothing wrong with them.
I would rather have an airstone that's well placed than a powerhead creating algae spots every few days where the water hits the glass.

Bubbles do rise from the bottoms of bodies of water ya know, so bubbles, just like current, are natural as well.
Whatever, my fish love it - they always play in it at night

Do what you want man, it's your tank
