Should I just give up?

curled as in not unfurled, or they are unfurled and sexually mature? if not sexually mature, i'd estimate they are under 3 yrs old.
my male retic is approx 10 inches and he is still not sexually mature. mine are around the 2.5 year mark, give or take.

you can actually keep a batch of red wigglers inside the house during winter, as they can keep multiplying throughout. they aren't nearly the pain in the ass that nightcrawlers are to breed (require colder temps whereas red wigglers are fine at room temp, and they stink less).

i did the starving method each time, max 5 days. then just one day after not feeding them the day before, i dropped some in and boom they were munching on tilapia. then they really started chowing on it. used sole when tilapia was not to be found in town, but they don't care for it as much (it has a bit more potent smell i noticed, as i don't eat seafood) then about 2 weeks ago, they consumed their first market shrimp pieces.

i still do give them nightcrawlers on occasion but variety is better than all of one food type.

thankfully in your case, worms are very nutritious, so it's not like they're eating junk.

just keep at it and one day they'll surprise you.

They are curled but unfurled? Sorry what does that mean? Lol. For the red wriggles my mom won't allow the decomposing bin anywhere inside the house. Already asked that and leaving them in the garage is still too cold during winter. Garage is not insulated. Gets no where near room temp in there during winter. My dad and I are going to renovate the garage this summer and well insulate it cuz my tank is set up in there but the temp is struggling to keep up. My heaters run 24/7 during the winter.

curled claspers are closed up, curled together, from what i took of your meaning.
unfurled claspers means that they have opened for the passing of semen to the female. it means the that male is sexually mature and can reproduce.

years ago i broke a super stubborn flower by cutting the shrimp to 1/2" length..bored a small hole thru the center of the shrimp and threaded a large canadian crawler thru the hole and tied into a knot.you may be laughing but it worked. she was eating shrimp with out the crawlers in 3 days! search for the thread stubborn flower or something like that..it worked and i know lotsa guys who have done it with the same success.good luck!
