Long story short I got two little ranchus today as a gift but their quality isn't all that :/. First one has good body shape but almost no wen growth second one had good shape and good wen but its tail looks more TVR if anything :(. The big one with them is the sakura ranchu I bought myself, I feel like they're so different in terms of quality but I feel bad giving them away as they were a gift. What do you guys think?

Honestly the TVR tail one just bothers the hell out of me lol. Nice Wen though, but color could be better. I'm just really picky with my fish which is why I prefer to choose 'em. I could house them for life, I ordered a 65 gallon 48"x18"x18" from glasscages a week ago so that could house a nice small out of ranchus for life imo

I like the one in the middle (of third pic) best. They look very young to me. That would explain why the first one has very little wen. Give it time with protein based foods (particularly by Hikari Lionhead) and the wen should be able to grow well.

Since you're picky with SVR (possibly), you can use these charts as your reference.

Thanks lupin! Yeah the middle one is the one I chose and bought for myself on saturday and the smaller two I got as a gift yesterday. I actually have two of those guide photos saved on my blackberry for ref when I go to the LFS to look at ranchus lol. The tail on the middle one is a little too big to be considered show quality but I was really sold on its color, good swimming pattern, and over all body shape (no real kinks on its spine from what I can see) I must've been staring at the tank for 30mins trying to decide. I will probably keep the smaller SVR too but I don't think I'm gonna keep the TVR color is kinda weak and its going to look out of place with the rest of the SVR's I'll be getting. Thanks on the food tip too, right now I'm feeding lionhead and saki-hikari for goldfish haven't had a chance to pick up any b/w's yet.

Give them away. In your particular case, you want high quality not pet quality. I will take the large one, how much? Goldfish connection makes you look at goldfish very different.

Sorry bro that one's not for sale, I actually picked that one lol. He ran me $25 incase you were wondering which isn't bad at all

Not a bro, that is a REALLY great price on that one. Goldfish connection is having an auction next week "New Auction Starts Sunday Nov. 7th, 2010 at 6 pm MST." The quality is incredible. They had fish for bid at $15.00(rare) and up. They had a beautiful ranchus, extravgant panda and more!!! The telscopes were incredible too. I lost my bid on two telescopes. Check out the auction next week, you get to preview the fish too. The fish you see is the fish you get.
