Hi all, I have a 14cm Senegal Bichir in with a 6cm Giant Gourami (they're in a 5x2x2), and the GG continually picks at the Bichir, sending him off around the tank, crashing into things and no doubt getting injured in the process. There are plenty of hiding places for the Bichir, but he doesn't seem interested in hiding at all. I've seen plenty of tanks with large Giant Gouramis and Bichirs getting along together perfectly well. Do you think that I should move the Bichir into another tank, or should I leave him with the GG? What would be the minimum size tank to move the Bichir in to?

i think if you getthe gourami some target fish like giant danios for him to share his aggression onto then your birchershould be ok, get about 6-7 in a shoal, anything thats fast and colourful, to distract the gourami

Is there something I could use that grows larger than giant danios? Possibly silver dollars?

SDs should work fine.

aren't GGs preditory i'd worry about it getting eaten enless you have a bigger tank to put the GG in which you should they get pretty big

but i'd say if that keeps up get it into a differnt tank a 55 is the minimum for a senegal for life but wider is better

Knowing that bichirs cost an arm and a leg in aus I would think that separating them is your best solution. 40 gal breeder is the minimum I would put a full grown senegal in.

I might leave it for a while before moving the bichir, as he doesn't really seem scarred / damaged, and I need to find somewhere to put another tank.
