Should i not gravel vac every water change!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I vacuum the whole tank weekly and at the same time do a 50% WC...

i say the question needs more info, it really depends on the type of filtration you are running. if you rely on an under gravel filter your helpful bacteria is in the gravel so sucking it up would be bad but if the majority of your bacteria is in another (canester or sump) location then your safe and you can vacuum to your hearts content. go go go.

Not true. Nitrifying bacteria lives on surfaces. Everything else is waste. All an UGF does is push the waste under the filter plate. Like sweeping dirt under the rug--it's still there.

If a gravel vac is needed every week....The tank is being overfed.....

Assuming we are speaking of an average stocked tank. It is the feeding. Overstocked tanks have an "*" When it comes to feeding/changes/aggro.....

Is there a nice stiff hose you can buy with a cup on the end that picks up the gravel and lets it fall back while the water is permanently removed?
