I'm 15 and have been keeping fish again for the last 2 yrs, and have 4 large tanks:
  • 6x2x2
  • 4x2x2
  • Rio 300
  • 48x30x24
And am thinking about cutting down on tanks or packing it in, as i haven't really been doing much else, as i've got autisum these are my main hobby. I'm thinking about getting rid of all exept the Rio which is in the living room, just for Dats, or the Rio and the 6x2x2 Help me decide.

i would put all your free time into one awesome tank, therefore allowing you to have time for other hobbies and etc..Never give up something you enjoy so much, cutting back is ok.

It would be a shame to loose someone like you who does so well here and is so helpful.

It's certainly alright to cut back if they are consuming all your time, but sleep on it for a few days and talk it over with friends and family. You've got a big investment there in your time already.

Is there something else you'd rather do? Like you said your 15 and there are a lot of things to do out there.

sounds like you`re suffering from fishkeeping burnout but trust one who knows you`ll pack it in then six months down the line wish you`d kept your tanks .
if you do downsize for a bit keep yer gear and tanks in the garage or wherever.
Keep your options open !

Those are words of wisdom.

I was forced to down size, but had been thinking about it anyways. Got rid of my SW, planted, and small tropical fish.

I wish I still had them now.

Ive made the mistake my self and sold everything, i have now spent years trying to get it all back. I read your post and i've seen your pictures, dude you love fish as much as the rest of us. I would just shut some down for a while till that special fish catches your eye at the LFS and you know it will.
Good luck

Please don't give up the hobby, you really shouldn't. If you want, you can cut back, if it's taking up too much of your time. But fishkeeping is a great hobby, it's not like sitting in front of the computer all time.

Wow I just read up on Autism and I'm pretty sure that's what my problem is.

Anyway I dont think you should completely leave maybe cut down a bit would be a good idea...

i wouldnt give up, i always give up hobbys and regret it and iam the same age as you. i have only been keeping fish for about 4months and i have thought of quiting many times as i havent been going out as much, so i decided to just go out most of the time and enjoy other things, yes the fish havnt had the same amount of care than before put they are still healthy. iam getting a 4by2by2 soon and thats where most of my fish are going. i have 4 tanks atm but 2 are small and iam cutting down to 2 and a fry tank also iam getting rid of other fish i dont want anymore which is most. i think cutting down would be better than completly quiting. if you want to sell some of your fish and you will get a fair amount from what i now you look after them alot better than me and have rarer fish and you could use that money to go out and enjoy yourself. since i have been going alot more i have had a happier live also i would keep hold of those tanks just increase you want them for something special. gl you will make the right decisision for yourself. also you can always overstock tanks if you keep them healthy:D and as its the holidays now just leave them for abit and keep the basic matinace
