They'll definitely grow a lot quicker in the pond.
I have read somewhere some years ago that the fish really benefit from the direct rays of the sun in ways that no bulbs can duplicate.I have been meaning to try this for a while now.I say as long as you can keep them safe in terms of critters and temps then give it a try.

The larger and more natural the environment the better the fish will do. Looking at your pond, I think I would do it. My only concern would be temp as everyone has stated. I'd have it heated and provide some shaded areas.

Very nice looking setup there too.

I think that the additional water volume would make the fish grow really fast, and of course, we all believe that sun light can make fish colorup faster. You should first get thousands of the mosquito fish to grow in there, then put them in. or the elopicthys and have them grow!

Actually, that was my original plan. Two weeks ago I put several hundred mosquito fish in. A lot got sucked into the skimmer but hopefully I can get them to reproduce faster then the lost. The elopicthys' are still in the growout tank feeding on extra small guppies. Once big enough out they go. Maybe I should put my single runt Bahia in for a few months.
I don't know???? Just soliciting ideas. By the way, the spinibarbus are doing great. They are very quick swimmers.

I wouldnt put em out if the temps go below 80. I think if there was a huge temp swing from day to night and the temp got below 80 they would develop ich. Have you ever thought of putting a simple green house structure over the pond to help control temp?

The water temp currently is below 80. I did it last year to some hybrid and they were fine.
I hear what you're saying about the temp swing from day to night which is what koi hobbiest like me try to control with deep water and volume. No fluctuation here. Yes, I have considered a simple green house. Habor Freight have them for $299. I would go that route if I decide to keep them out all year round. Even solar came to mine but how crazy is it going to get?. It's funny how you're thinking like me.

^^^^Do it! An outdoor pond covered by a green house would be awesome! I like to keep my cichla in water that is atleast 83...so I wouldnt put those rare cichla in a pond that is below 80. Get that green house and watch em grow!
