Should I put sand.....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
IF you have a multiple filters including large canisters you shouldn't have a problem with cloudy water from the sand. The fish store i volunteer at has several 120's set-up with oscars and rays with sand and they run Filstar canisters and the water is always crystal clear.

I think he means to use it like a leaf blower...just use the current to stir it up and into the filter.

yep just like that but set the powerhead up so that your sand is not blowing into the filter. :)

We use sand in our tanks and personally, I prefer it. You'd just have to be a little more careful when vacuuming, and make sure you wash it carefully before putting it in. We forgot to do that when setting up our tank and the water turned black...it took several days to clear that up.

I have sand in my 225g tank it takes just a few minutes longer to vaccum properly.Id rather take the time to clean over gravel any day!!
That's my opinion! mic :grinyes:

Sand looks great...it's just a pain in the arse when it comes to cleaning.

just do it
