A 30 should be fine for a growout tank...

personally a 30 will be fine for some time. only problem is socializing this fish. it can be very hard to re-introduce isolated fish to a social environment, later down the road. i am using this as a reference of possible breeding in the future. but its totally up to you, and he/she would be fine for some time in a 30 IMO.

Flowerhorns are hard to socialize anyway.. most don't like other fish anyway.

30gallon is good enough for now...for one fish...average tank size for a single flowerhorn to house is 75 to 100 gallon max...

I'm curious as to what size "good" is....let me rephrase that....

At what size would he need to be upgraded to the larger tank?

I know for his case, the sooner the better, but I'm asking for a diret answer.

There's really no maximum size for any fish, I would say.. what fish wouldn't like more room? But a minimum for a flowerhorn, full grown, I'd say 75+, but a 55 should do.

until the lenght of the fish is the same as the width of the tank. then its time to upgrade. in this case anyway.

Don't get a fish temporarily. If you buy him, do it with the intention of getting him a larger tank.

She should stay in in the 30G untill she is roughly 6-7". Perhaps smaller.
