I have a red devil that I bought from a LFS that was marked as a assorted african for $2.99 a couple of months ago. Morale of the story is that theres probably a 100% chance its a hybrid anyways. Well today I moved in 5 f1 midas with him from another tank because I needed the room. I can tell it won't be long before something shacks up with the red devil and I have a ton of midas/red devil crosses. My question is.. Should I sell them to all my LFS's considering I have no way of telling what the red devil is anyways..? I don't really see a difference if I bred this "red devil" with another "red devil" and then sold them the babies. I personally don't see a problem, my LFS's are terrible anyways. The last thing I sold to them was some 1.5-2.5" 8 regular convicts, and 7 pink, for $10 store credit so I know they will buy them.

A fish is a fish. If somone likes the fish and wants to buy it and give it a good home, why not?

anybody else..?

Responsible thing to do is tell the LFS they are midas hybrids.. Since that's the one fish you know is pure(if you know they're F1's). Or even cull the fry or use them as feeders.

See you're not breeding rdxrd you're breeding what you think is full rdxmidas which are two different fish. After reading that I'm wondering how sure you are on the diferrence between rd and midas. What exactly they are will make a difference on how you want to pass them off.

you said you know your RD bought as "assorted africans" is probably RD/Midas. I'd be sure to tell the LFS exactly what the parents are. they may want to sell them as midas, being that they are 3/4 midas.

Do you think that if they knew what it was they would label it correctly when trying to sell it....

Or put it this way, even if you knew exactly what the parents where, do you think they care enough to pass that info on to potential buyers?

If the answer is yes, than tell them what you know. If not just take it in.

this is what I am saying even though I agree with everybody else. My friend who works there boxed up a iguana for some stupid 20 year olds the other day and proceeded to give them 2 dozen crickets for the iguana even though iguanas are vegetarians. Didn't bother saying 1 thing.. I didn't want to hurt their sale so on the way out I told the guy, "He will probably eat those, but they're not good for him" but the guy didn't care.

I do know the difference between labiatus and citrinellus. The red devil looks like a pure red devil to me too, you just never know. The midas are f1's for sure and this is the "assorted african" lol.

oh and the way I know its a red devil and not a midas is when he mas marked as a assorted african for $2.99 the next tank over was marked as red devils for $7.99 that were half of his size. He was just the winner of the grow outs and they must have been stupid enough to think he was a different species and move him in with the africans.
