Should i switch to a Salt Water tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think every fish is more interesting then chiclids. I've learned that color fish don't mean fun to keep up etc. If you like aggressive fish that bite feeders in half with some cool colors look into some snakeheads

My advice is to read up on keeping salt water before you even try. Books like marine sw aqaurium keeping for idiots books like that I learned a lot through that and of corse research it here if you got any probs. Like fw it has its own needs.

I have fw and also plan for one day to start a salt water. Good luck!

I agree that research is needed, but don't be intimidated by SW. A fish only with live rock (FOWLR) tank isn't complicated. Reef tanks are more complicated, and there are species of saltwater fish extremely difficult to care for, but there are many SW fish that can be kept successfully without much more effort than a freshwater tank.
You need excellent filtration, proper water params (a couple more than FW), and excellent nutrition--honestly, not any more effort than many of my friends that keep very specialized fish like wild caught African or SA cichlids (DISCUS!) and trying to get them to breed.
If you're willing to learn, spend a bit more money than a FW setup costs, and honestly want a saltwater tank, I say go for it! Why not? If you make mistakes just learn from them and try again.
