Should I totally reclean my tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A total clean would probably be best. Rotten egg smell is usually something that bad bacteria make.

Good for you....His question is still valid.....

since u dont know what caused it ....i would say do a 100% water change, remove wash the gravel, clean the tank ,wash the filtration add activated carbon....let the tank cycle ...

Since he doesn't mention fish dying left and right, just that the tank stinks, I do not think drastic measures such as this are warranted.

Putting the tank into a cycle is going to stress the fish more than anything, and more than likely cause some casualties.

The addition of carbon (as mentioned) is a good temporary measure that will get some of the stink out...

Burt:)

Assuming he only has one tank, where else would the fish go? A baby fish sitter? lol There is fish-less and fishy cycling. Burtess is 100% correct....
