Should I transfer my catfish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's the next morning my pleco is fine but my raphael has not stopped moving all morning, he has been pacing across the tank and up the sides, the few times he stops he is deeply panting any he gets scared when I get to close to the glass. What should I do guys?

We know about NH3, NO2, and NO3. IIRC, you never spoke of other parameters.

How do pH, temp, and hardness compare between the two tanks?

What other fish are in the 75 and how are they behaving (other than the rainbow shark)?

Which tank did you say you fed and if it is 75, what are the NH3 and NO2 now?

There may or may not be anything to worry about. ATM I lean towards the latter.

Pics of the fishes, the tank, the aeration, etc. may help.

30 parameters:
ammonia-0
nitrite-0
nitrate-40-60
ph- 7.6
temp-78

75 parameters:
ammonia-0
nitrite-0
nitrate-10
ph-7.6
temp-75-76

75 fish:
6 giant danios-stay away from him
1 rainbow shark- occasionally follows no aggression though
1 sailfin pleco- careless :)

fed the 75 flake last night and can't get pics this second I'm at school but I'll take them at home in a few hours.

Your raphael is simply stressed IMO. When I first got my red tail catfish x tiger shovel nose hybrid t paced the tank then stopped to breath heavily just like yours. it also did not eat for a week... that would be my guess... it s stressed for some reason...

I subscribed to your youtube by the way...

Thanks man, I really appreciate it (are you monstafishkeeper, if so you got a NICE channel)and he has been in and out of the decorations more today though still swimming around fast a lot. As long as he won't die from that amount of stress then I'll just let him do his thing, thanks for the input!

Obviously you have tons of caves in there. You could try rearranging them so the raph can claim one, if that's the problem.

None of my other fish go in the caves. My pleco is in paradise and never leaves the driftwood and my shark will only occasionally zip in and out of one. I'll take a video when I get home for you guys to show you. He seems to be swimming slower today from the video I was sent though. Even though he still comes up to the top. Maybe he is becoming an "outside-cat" :) it is rare to get one that comes out like that but maybe I lucked out.

Looks good (except definitely too high NO3 in the planted (?) 30 - needs much more water changes). Looks like you don't know the hardness. It may be ok anyway.

I still see no red flags. Hence, he may be merely taking the move a bit hard. Give him a week to settle.

He is out now but as long as nobody gets to close he isn't stressed. Here's a picture
