It is hard to wait when you get the itch to buy a new fish, but...think of the fun when you have that new six foot tank setup. You may change your mind and not want any. Here's my cure for wanting more fish, I do a major tank cleaning and rearrange the tank, maybe buy or go find a new rock or piece of wood. This technique seems to help me and it sure helps me not overstock my tanks.
My storage room has a selection of plants, rocks, and ornaments, that I can interchange and create new aquascapes. Nothing fancy, I'm not opposed to picking up a large fake log from Walmart on a whim.
It is fine to have a lot of those fish in a 55 when they are small, but I always make sure to have a plan for them when they get larger and more aggressive. I can't imagine the jag not destroying all your fish in the 55 in a matter of months. My brother had a jag in a 75 that quickly became the only fish in the tank.
What type of 180 or 125 are you planning on getting? What type of filtration? I would start planning your new tank around your jag. Your JD, hopefully a female, should be fine in your 55 with your firemouths, not sure about a pike.
I've learned the hard way that a few CA/SA cichlids that are in primo condition look better than a tank full of stressed out, torn up fish. Think about your new "show" tank with a huge beautiful jag and one or two other fish that are stunning.
Good luck, I look forward to seeing/hearing your progess! You gotta love this hobby!
