Should I worry about feeders?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would get a few and quarantine them for 2 weeks. After the 2 weeks, feed them to the oscar and then get more and quarantine them for 2 weeks. Then, continue that for as long as you like, unless it starts getting HITH or other things from the feeders.

Something you may want to try, if it's possible for you, like duanes mentioned, is breeding your own feeders. You'll just need a 10-15g aquarium with a minimalistic setup. Go to your LFS and try to find some white cloud minnows. I haven't had any experience with them personally, but from what I've read they breed fairly easily and work well as home bred feeders.

just make sure to buy your feeders from a good source. A bait shop is NOT a good source IMO as they have no need or incentive to maintain them in healthy conditions.

ive had bad luck with feeders and Os in the past w/HITH....id advise against them

Well, we have came to an agreement....I will let him try feeders here and there, but he has to let me get a 10g tank to put them in and let them "quarantine" for 2 weeks at least before feeding...or I will get some of my own to breed...I told him if he would let me get a bigger tank then the 10 like a 40-50 I could get some cons and let them breed the fry could be the feeders (I know mean right...but much better then the alternative) plus I have wanted cons for a while. :D Of coarse he likes the other idea better he says 2-55g, the 150g my 29, 14 and 2-10s are enough tanks plus the 75 I plan to reseal over the summer :irked:
