Just so you know, Galaxias refers to Leporacanthicus Galaxias, which is commonly known as the Vampire pleco. L240 is just one of the many genetic variations of it.

a lot of the variations in the plecos are due to locality. the L007 Leporacanthicus cf. galaxias is from brazil, (def. in Rio Guamà). L029 is also from brazil but from rivers such as the Rio Tocantins. the difference in these are simply the L029 has a lower dorsal fin, slightly smaller spots and a longer "snout" or "face". the L240 which wyldfya is found from rivers in venezuela and have significantly fewer spots, especially around the fins and are sometime given a "black edge" common name. my favourite of these "vampire" Leporacanthicus plecs is the L172a golden (below)

That looks a lot like the Leporacanthicus heterodon. Very cool plec, but my fav of the Leporacanthicus genus is the Joselimai.

yup its the Leporacanthicus heterdon gold sub-species. beautiful thing. i wished the sultans kept the white tip, i think they look much better with it, and more drab without it but thats just imo. they have great character though

The one surviving one we have that has been in my wifes tank is just as big as mine was, and still has a considerable amount of the white tip. He is near 5.5" now.

Yeah, I wish, he is one of the most elusive plecs we have. On a side note that royal is doing well. now if only he would grow another 4 inches I'd be set.

i currently keep my L007 with 2 gibbys, so yea they'll be fine together. provide lots of hideouts, as i've heard that other owners find them a bit reclusive

Okay, i bought it today, apparently, another staff memebr said they were ordered in under the name 'orange spotted sailfin.' I also bought a clown stripe pleco for £2, which i'm guessing according to some pictures is the candy-stripe plec.
