Should I?

20 gallons will not do for an arowana because i think a good size to put an arowana in a pond would be at like around 16" a 20 gallon will not fit on till then

I am only going to use it to grow him/her to about 10 inches then my pond so hopefully it won't be too cramped.

You can make a frame out of PVC that fits the shape of your pond, and attach a netting to the PVC... then you can just pick it up and remove when feeding, cleaning, or whatever. Fencing would work but, then you cant even see your pond so it kind of defeats the purpose...

if you are serious about getting an aro then do the research first. you seem to be stuck on your final home for it, but have nothing in the middle for it. your 20gal wont work for a 10" aro. not only that, but how big are your oscars? if they are in the pond i am going to say that they are bigger then 3". thats how big they must be with your 10" aro for you not to have a dead aro. look around i am sure you can find a larger aro for sale to go right into your pond. jimmy down the street problibly has a 16"+ aro that has "lived happily" in his 55gal and now he wants to move on. after you get the mid ground figured out then buy a small aro. till then hold off. read the sticky called "do you want an arowana then read this" then you will have a better understanding of what you are getting into. also don't dismiss information like what brian or myself have given you as we have raised many aros from small sizes. i have raised them from eggsacks to over 24"(i can't remember if brian has had any with eggsacks or not). i have also tried oscars with the aros. i sold the oscars due to them being agressive tward the aros. they seem to have a nack for loving the wiggle of the aros "streamers" and will persue them till the aro is to stressed to move then it will just pick at it till it is dead. trust us.

yes a 40g is acceptable for growouts

how big are your pond mates? depending on there size and type of them a 10-11" aro might not be fine. ex if your oscars are 8"+ the aro wont be fine.

if you get the aro to grow fast enough it could be doable. i personally would have gone about it the other way around and got the oscars after the aro was large. if you go light on the oscars food then go 2 or 3 times daily with moderate meals for the aro in 86f water it should grow fast enough to out grow the oscars. just don't move the aro from tank to tank and keep the water pristine. stress is a major growth slower. i have seen a stunted silver and a silver that grew to over 24" in 10 months in my care. the larger faster growing aro was in a 180gal from 5" and the stunted aro went from tank to tank while i moved, tried to cohab it with another silver, and just needed tank options. this poorly affected the aros growth. just out of couriosity what else is in that pond? how are the oscars getting food in that huge pond at 4"?

Thanks for the info.

The only time they will come out is when the see me splash the water and toss food in. Plus the stay at one side of the pond most of the day so that makes it easier.
