Should lions and elephants roam the U.S. Great Plains?

i dont think this proposal will ever happen, but its a cute idea. personally i'd support it, i dont care about what chaos it might make in the ecosystem or whatnot.

i think it'd be possible with a slow introduction of a small population at first, allowing the predated population to adjust to a new hunter. plus, on these large reserves, everything could be somewhat well monitored and intervention would be relative easy.

simple answer... no way. Why don't they do that in Africa aqain? I think we should relocate kodiak bears to africa and see what happens (j/k).

Not sure about lions and elephants. However, global warming and resulting climate shifts may eventually leave us with no other choice than to redistribute existing species according to our understanding, and will likely imply the need to breed/engineer new ones sooner or later anyway.

What will become of it is of course a totally different question.

In view of that perspective, politically speaking, the issue is whether or not it would be a positive factor if it were the US who became the "lab rat", yet again paving the way for future strategies or serving as a deterrent for other nations.

i dont think they will overpopulate. its more like putting them in a larger zoo( a reserve ) so we can have a decent sized population here. Hey, if their population
goes way up, whats a little safari to keep the numbers down ? :naughty:

They have been talking about bringing elk, wolves and cougars back to NY for forever and never did it. If they cannot bring an animal back to where it once was they shouldn't bring in a totally different species. Leave everything as is, what happens happens, life finds a way and all that jazz. If we are going to bring anything to our grasslands it should be more bison...restore the herds we once had.

hell yeah id eat em TRUST. thats why i said id be hunting the bastards. but i think the idea is good, AS LONG as they are all confined inside of fenced areas and monitored on a constant basis. that would not be introducing them to our native animal population since they would not have free roam. but the idea of having lions running around the mountains at large is absurd. elephants....preposterous. hahahaha jk but you get what i mean. i think it is a bad idea. if we are going to introduce stuff lets repopulate our animals. send the phuckin lions and elephants to mexico.
