BP's are from quite arid areas and generally dont need misting. I agree with the above just make sure water is available and all will be well. The solid white/yellowish crap is urates. Nothing to worry about.

BTW my boa only deficates about once every 2-3weeks.
 
Dont worry you got him last week according to your post hes still stressed and this will cause him to have irregular movements ,it will take him weeks if not months to totaly calm down and adjust, provide lights of water a good hide and a warm and cool side of the tank.
 
thanks.. this is one pet's care I'm not taking lightly.. she's got lots of stuff to climb on (which she does) ..big water bowl.. nice rock cave and heat.. I think I'm doing a good job.. I was thinking about putting in some live ivy.. ..but I'm definitely getting some mosses to keep the humidity up. ..so far it's varied from 30 to 70... I know it's not going to hurt the snake when it's dry for a little while.. but it will if it's long periods of time...

I'm thinking that I'm going to mist the tank during the day at least once for a while.. it tends to rise at nighttime to right around 70..
 
Again...unless she is having trouble shedding misting the cage and getting moss isnt needed. BP's are from a DRY climate and DONT need high humidity. I would leave it the way you have it as it is perfect already!
 
well she finally pooped and it looked like a stretched out tootsie roll. Thanks guys.. I did more research and now I'm pretty relaxed with her.

so walls.. what ranges of humidity should I feel comfortable with?? all the care sheets and papers I've read said they like 70% ...but the tank wavers between 30-40 in the day and around 55-60 at night.. She cruises the tank.. she's all shiny still.. I guess I should just wait til she sheds and make my judgement then?

I was thinking about getting some small pieces of moss anyway.. I think it looks neat.. ....but if it's gonna be a problem I'll refrain.
 
Now you know the difference between crap and pee (urates) LOL!!

I would wait for the first shed and see how she does. But really IMO you have what seems to be a great set-up just the way it is.

Can we get a full tank shot??

Yeah I would have to say that your set-up is just about perfect! LOL!!

Really if you are still concerned about the humidity level add a moist hide. But I see no need for concern.

What humidity gauge are you using? Im sure you said it somewhere but im too lazy tonight to go back and find it. I ask because I had TWO of the cheap ZooMed ones and they both didnt work so well.
 
What you posted was a pic of a urate.

Ball pythons, like all snakes, pass feces, urates, as well as liquid urine. One issue with your setup is that you'll never be able to clean the liquid urine without changing out the substrate completely.

As a matter of fact, many new keepers are never even aware that they pass small amounts of liquid urine until they use a different kind of substrate that doesn't absorb it (newspaper, carpet, etc).

What you showed in the pic looks completely normal and doesn't indicate dehydration or anything like that as others have led to earlier in the thread.
