Should the Ebola infected Americans be allowed in US?

Most foreign aid organizations are pulling their people out of the 4 African nations that are affected by the Ebola virus due to the risk of it spreading. And yet the United States is importing the virus to this country, thinking that they can control it's spread. Makes sense. LOL!

I do not argue that, but you are talking about 3rd world, docs trying to get it contained with tents for quarantine, paper smoks and particulate masks. its the 3rd world. limited meds , limited everything. no it is not curable, or treatable, it is a hemorrhagic virus. but is not highly contagious. again, be more worried about thing like the Spanish influenza. killed 20 million, this not a influenza. and not air born.

Why put any Americans at risk of contracting the ebola virus? No need to bring those two Americans home. The CDC and the hospital are just trying to justify the cost of keeping the 4 isolation units operating for the last 12-14 years. There is no cure for ebola, only treatment.

Hello; The fatality rate is around 60%. It is much easier to catch than HIV or TB. Body fluids including perspiration will carry the virus, so it is fairly easy to contract. Yes one infected doctor died and yes he was taking considerable precautions. I have read that there is no known cure or vaccine as yet and may not be one any time soon.

Being a virus, it can (and likely will) mutate at some point and become more easy to contract.

One of the classes I recall from microbiology lab was an exercise with a non-infectious powder. The stuff was visible under UV but not to the naked eye. We were given some in sealed containers and went thru some common lab proceeduresfor bacteria. At the end of the period we had a look around with the UV lights. Several were "infected" and the stuff was out in the lab in many places. Point being that proceedures to prevent infections fail and people make mistakes.

Is the point of allowing an infected US citizen in just because of citizenship or is it to get the person to the CDC for study of the disease?

I would be interested in how the infected person is to be transported. Likely in an airplane. Might be a way to find out if aerosol transmission is indeed possible. Another good reason not to fly.

My observation in hospitals and clinics is not encouraging. I have seen several poor practices with regard to preventing the spread of pathogens. I make a practice of only touching what is necessary. I wash my hands as I leave or as soon as possible and do not touch my face. I change my clothes right away with what I wore going into the laundry. I do not read the magazines while waiting.

Have you ever wondered about a doctors necktie? As far as I know neckties do not hold up to being washed and most male doctors wear the same one all day with no cleaning between days of wear.

I see no reason why the ebola virus would not be a serious problem in any country including the USA. In the past the spread was limited because outbreaks were in remote villages and often played out in small communities. This time around it made it to major cities and a recent report was that it is unlikely to be contained. Even if the particular person in question in this thread is restricted the virus has a fair chance to spread to many countries.

Hello; Your point is confusing. If the virus is not easy to contract, as you have stated, then even 3rd world practices should be more than adequate. I do not see how it can be both ways.

If we're not sending people there because of the danger of this type, then no way will patients be coming here.If we are sending doctors, with the cdc,I'm sure their mobile labs will be fine.If they bring it here,it will likely be a sealed sample to give to a test facility, not a patient.

just read up on it, and not what the news media puts out, sensationalist sells, not saying its not a mien virus, but not as communicable as the common cold or influenza. this Oh My god they bringing this into the country is nutz, its already been brought in. that was 3 or 4 weeks ago. treated and done.
