really? so regular tap water should be fine for cherry shrimp? ok so compatibility for them, would they be fine in a 10 gallon tank with black kuhli loaches a male betta and ember tetras? in case your not familiar with embers they have the body shape of neons but only get to about 3/4" long. do you think it might be worth it to try and keep cherrys in a tank like that and breed them? i abandoned the cherry shrimp breeding idea because i thought RO was a must and i didnt want to spend all that money a one of those filters right now. here's a picture of the 10 the way it is now.

how does hte food get into the 10 gallon :screwy:

Betta with shrimps? I wouldn't try this. Bettas are unpredictable and as these are predatory by nature, they will eat your shrimps if given the chance to do so. Embers and kuhlis are fine though.

I have a school of 30 or so embers in with one of my neocaridina species. that will work fine, i second that bettas are hit or miss. The will certainly eat any juvenile shrimp and most likely will harass adults. I do have a betta and cherry shrimp together in a 36g heavily planted tank and its working out, but he is a wussy betta.

your lighting will be fine for everything except for the hair grass i have a 10 gallon planted with 2 pc lights i think 15 watts each.
