I have a 55-gal tank that I would like to house a Lima shovelnose cat. I have 3 small clown loaches, a blue cichlid, a 7 inch goldfish, 2 common plecos, and 3 swordtails. The temp is at 80 degrees. Would this make a good setup? Thanks for your time.

No offense intended but their are so many things working against you here I don't even know where to start...

I have a 12"TSC and a 12"RTC in a 300l tank, they are growing fast but my 6" oscar is bullying them, so basically I think your clown loaches would end up as food. A shovelnose fish can eat fish upto half its body weight, if it can nearly fit it in its mouth it will be eaten. Aggressive fish like shovelnose should be kept with aggresive fish

Here are a few problems...

1. The Lima Shovelnose get's too big for a 55 and will eat anything it can...

2. Your 7" Goldfish is temperate not tropical.

3. Your "Common" Plecos can grow to 24".

4. A "Blue" Cichlid could be anything...any specifics?

Sorry to have to tell you all this...

apart from the robs listed above, i dont think that your clowns will become food, i have a 14 inch lima and 3 2 inch ble acaras, and it doesnt bother them at all

I really don’t think you should even consider a shovel nose even a Lima they can still get to just short of 2 ft only do it if you are seriously considering getting a bigger tank it could work in a tank that size but there are better choices like a Synodontis Eupterus this would be fine in a 50. They are Semi-aggressive
Though not high on the list but do bully. I also don’t like putting goldfish in tropical tanks. Goldfish are not tropical fish; therefore, they do not require tropical temperatures such as some fish with temperatures of 80F and higher. But saying that they can live in and thrive in it. Last time I put a gold fish in with my tiger shovel nose and yellow tail it disappeared and I haven’t seen it since. Funny that!! :naughty:

i have a lima-shovelnose cat
i bought him at petco for 25 bucks
i see it as 25 bucks well spent
he eats bloodworms
he also likes to eat my convicts fry

i now have a lima shovelnose and a banded shovelnose cat, i had yo yo loaches and clown loaches....................not anymore tho!!
