rainbowfish, these arent bluegill. i cant really tell but i think they might be green sunfish. theyre the coolest imo because they have the biggest mouths of all the sunfish. they remind me of oscars :)
o and btw if u want to see my juvenile bluegill i have a thread just search baby bluegill and my name will be next to it

I believe the top is a longeared sunfish. The second looks like a hybrid bluegill. I would guess macrochirusXcyanellus

fishinaddicts pic is of a bluegillxgreen sunfish i think i caught one out of a local farm pond that only has bluegill and green sunfish in it so....thats what i think it is

top one def. long ear
bottom one looks like a bluegill x sunfish either pumkin seed, or just a normal sunfish, he dosnt have the colors or the shape if he was mixed with a green sunfish

here is a pic of a blue gill x green sunfish, click link then click see full sized image

Notice the bright fins they tend to be a dominate trate in green sunfish hybrids which the one in the other pic dosnt have all so the eyes and the face are not right if it was a green sunfish hybrid, all so that gill color is common in all sunfish species

What is a "normal" sunfish?
My vote is still for bluegillXgreen. The hatchery I worked at constantly stocked them, so I've personally handled upwards of 100,000 from about 1/2" up to over 8". It has the typical shape, pattern, and color of an adult bluegillXgreen. I do agree, the picture doesn't show the typical white/yellow fin margins of the green and hybrids of it, but it isn't that great of a picture.
And in your other post...what gill color is common in all species?

A normal sunfish is a redear sunfish, but could also be a redbreast sunfish or something like that, also green sunfish hybrids have bright bottom fins, it could be a hybrid of a hybrid as well cuz not all sunfish hybrids are sterile. It might not be a hybrid at a all it might just be a redear the more a look at it, but then again it dosnt have and red on the gill but not all do.

a hint of blue was the color, found on bluegills bottom jaw, pumkin seed all over, redbreast on there face, waremouth on the gillplate, green sunfish all over in patterns, longear all over, Readear under the eye.
