Show me your Ornates

yikes pdbrady I really wouldn't keep those polys together. You might continue to be lucky...but then again you might not...my Ornate lived with smaller polys for several months and then one day out of the blue started eating them....you just never know...

Anyway my Avatar is the only crappy pic I have of mine. He was 13" at last measuring I think he might have put on another inch or so since then.

Nah, he's fine. The only fish he's ever eaten was a dragon goby that one night suddenly started having major issues, and I'm pretty sure died first. In my experience, the trick is to keep them very well fed. Now the catch to that is to get them to eat what you want them to. Luckily, I've gotten mine to work with me. They get either whole beefheart, shrimp, silversides, squid, clams, oysters, scallops, so on, every other night, with shrimp pellets filling the days between (since my cichlids eat them, too, so they really just get the leftovers). No problems in about 9-10 months. Him and my smaller ornate pile on each other at all times.

waht would be a good starter bichir? never had one and i've become interested the last few weeks.

Wow I can't believe your Ornate hasn't tried to eat your Sen! He's so tiny!!

I assume you're talking about the first pic :D. He's in with the one other ornate and 5 sens. The sens are 8", 2x 6-7", 5.5-6", and the little guy about 5". I think it's just that he makes them appear smaller than they really are. :) I'd honestly be more worried about the 2 6-7" sens eating someone else because they were raised by my brother-in-law eating feeders.

For a starter you can't beat a senegal. They readily eat anything, they're active....just easy. They just don't get very big. But I LOVE my ornates!!

from what i've read ornates get fairly large correct?
