Was just about to leave the LFS yesterday when I saw a pair of green severums (they were in breeding colors, so maybe there is a chance they are rotkeils) in their display tank...and then I saw fry! I convinced the owner to take one shot at getting some, but they only got one fry before he said no more so as not to disturb the parents and fry too much. And here he is...

Can you see him? He is right over the circle etched in the bottom of the container (sorry it's blurry). But this guy made it through the night so it was a relief. Will go back and take pics of the parents this week and hopefully convince them to get more for me. :) Been trying to find another type of severum besides red/gold, and without paying an arm and leg for shipping. And I like seeing them grow from young. I think this guy is a week old or less. Excited!

Best of luck growing him out! It will increase your odds greatly if you can get more. Try to see if the owner is willing to syphon some of them out. I'm sure they have a water change hose laying around. Just get some tank water in the bucket first, get a syphon going, and suck up the fry into the bucket.

green and rotkiel are not the same. Pics of the parents would make it pretty easy to tell, greens (H. Esfaciatus) have 9 stress bars while H. sp. Rotkiel have 8. Either way best of luck, I've yet to regret growing out a new Heros.

Thanks MonsterFishCreeper MonsterFishCreeper and Woefulrelic Woefulrelic !
I also remembered the siphon idea this morning and so I called the store and asked the owner...and he said ok! So I will go on Wednesday. And I will definitely take a pic of the parents. I'm thinking they're greens, but I saw some video/pics of rotkeils in breeding color and they looked pretty similar. Either way would be cool.

Awesome that will be fun to grow them out! You can even offer the owner to bring some of the fry back in once they're sellable size if you don't plan to keep them or sell them to friends.

Unfortunately, the owner decided to waste my time and had me drive there on his day off. All the fry were gone and my little guy didn't make it. These were the parents, who looked like they were about to spawn soon. But I'm probably not going back to that place anymore. Too bad.

Here are some of mine. Hard to photograph in this room while it's so bright I'll get better ones later. They're growing out in a 75 with my chocolate. Going to get a few more small ones, hopefully rotkeils, and move them all to a 180 together when the time is right. I have 2 h. efaciatus, 1 red, 1 gold, and the choco atm.
