Great lookin GN i just picked up two yesterday and what looks to me like either a gold angelicus (L28) or a really light almost translucent GN but i think its closer to the L28. I got them cheap at LFS and they are about 1/2" all real young. Should i beware of buying plec's this small? I'm starting a plec tank to raise them and i'm wondering if anyone has any info to help me with these small plecs. I'll try to post pics soon

Small plecos are only dangerous to buy due to the high mortality rate. As a rule of thumb I only buy fish over the 1 1/2" mark. If you do buy one that small make sure that it has been there for a while, as smaller plecos will often die in transit over long distances. At sizes that small they will need quite a bit of nutritional foods. Offer a very varied diet, and keep water condition pristine and all should be well.

thanks wyldfya yeah the high mortality rate is a big concern and i've been trying to get them to eat the last 2 days. I've tried zucchini, brine shrimp, and bloodworms. I've done one water change as well, and nothing's worked as of yet...i really like the little guys but i'm getting worried now. =(

Make sure to turn the lights out also while feeding. They are nocturnal and will be more likely to feed in the dark.

yea small plecos are really hit and miss, especially a 1/2" GN. i cant think of anything really better than bloodworms for it (make sure they are reasonably small). you could try sinking carnivore pellets, cause they'll break up for it, or maybe small pieces of prawn for it to graze on? make sure it has a few caves, and bogwood really doesnt go amiss. and yea, like wyldfya said feed, and switch lights out. hope you get it feeding, good luck with it!

:iagree:

A pleco that ignores bloodworms would be like a dog ignoring a pork chop!

Have to get photos of 2 KIng Tigers,Peppermint,Tiger Pleco. Also I am selling that Unknown pleco for 15-20 dollars 7 inch. I have to start moving all my fancy plecos to my new 125. Little nervous about that but both the temperture and tank readings are the same. Because all the plecos below are in a 60 gallon tank with 4 Severums,Blood Parrots,Angel Fish. The fish load is getting to much
