Maybe it was caught from Congo and sent to Nigeria and was ship to your supplier
That could be possible!

My supplier actually does the same thing. His from Nigeria but he's able to get bichirs from other places in West Africa. Maybe your supplier is dealing with the same person as I'm dealing.
Would be hard to find out, as i am from Germany an i dont have direct contact with the supplier...

green zaire" or "congo green" respectively is an old or the popular name for Polypterus retropinnis:
However, there is a new twist in the designation of P. retropinnis. In the paper referenced below, the authors state that the type series (of three specimens) for P. retropinnis is of mixed composition: two are the fish known in the hobby as P. retropinnis (with broad saddle markings) - which are now designated as the new P. mokelembembe - and the third is the species known in the hobby as Polypterus sp. "Congo" or Zaire Green Bichir - which is now designated as the "true" retropinnis.

here are a few pictures of my retro. i think its about 6" maybe more.
Nice! Looks like a female to me. But the anal-fins of retropinnis seem to be very small even those of the males...

I think i have a pair. One has a really tiny anal-fin like yours and the other is about twice as long and wide but still smaller then the anal-fins of a senegalus male for example...

I hope anal-fin is the right word for what i mean...

Yeah anal-fin is the correct term. It's right next to the anoose, so I guess it makes sense lol
