cool that is burrows and such but these things creep me out beyond belief. they get in my house all the time. I shoot them in the head with my air rifle. its nasty
yea. mealworms form the base right now...but believe me its getting its share of other stuff as well. like if i know im gona be at work all day, ill dump them in..
as for plants i was thinking fern, english ivy....they were both in my backyard. the ivy might be posious to eat though.
philodendren i was also thinking of but im pretty sure they were poisonus.
it has to be something that can tolerate the tunneling!
its crazy the effect his bite has on a large earthworms. you can really see the venom taking effect...as oppose to eating smaller things. the earthworm just like freezes up in a straight line.
Do you think you could start a journal on your care for it? It'd be very interesting to many of the members on this forum and may lead to more individuals being willing to take on the care of one, simply because they might not understand what all is involved and (I know this cause I tried to find it) don't have access to a comprehensive care sheet.
Could try spiderplants too, they don't need a ton of light and they'll send out runners and really give you some quick ground cover.
I'd try putting in some crickets, before he picks them all off they'll breed and he'll have a new crop of small ones to chow on pretty quickly. I wouldn't do that with a lizard, but your shrew should pick them off before a lot of eggs are laid so you won't get a cricket population explosion.

yea with reptiles and amphibians...you never want to add too much live food at once because the crickets/mealworms can actually kill the creature you intended on feeding them too....if not stress it out.
but he mostly lives underground and all the "bugs" are terrified of him. he is either hyperactive or sleeping in a ball under a pile of dirt lol.
im actually going to get some crickets today for him to switch it up a big.
last night he actually ate some cocktail shrimp. today i placed in a grape with part of the skin removed so he can smell/taste it...hes sleeping right now though.
as far a write-up, i don't want to get cocky lol. it is doing great so far...but it has only been a couple of days!
That's more than everyone else on this board, and it's important to get everything put down on paper (or electronic copy, as the case may be) while it's still fresh in your head. In a day or two, could you start measuring the weight of the food that he consumes per day? That will give everyone a better idea over "a handful of meal worms here, a pile of earth worms there..."
