Hey MFK! I want to try to give my fish a wide variety of foods. and i want to try shrimp. What are the nutritional values of regular market shrimp? Are they packed with nice things or are they not nutritional at all?

Also, How do you prepare them? WHat i did was take off the shell and wash it then cut it up into small pieces. But i am worried it might stick inside the fishs mouth. I have 3 dempseys and 1 dat. the dempsey seems to have problems chewing because they are breathing heavily with their mouths open. Should i make the pieces micro-sized or seomthing? Anyway to keep it from getting sticky? My 1 inch dat is having a hard to time trying to eat it and so it just holds it in its mouth :D

Thanks

market shrimp are great food
i leave the shells on
cut them up for my Africans
and my other smaller fish
feed them whole to my African Lungfish (he loves them!)

shells are ok... tail is sharp....i like to remove it

I feed market shrimp to my Piranha and they love it. Brings out good color

I was worried about the tail
when feeding my Lungfish
because i was giving it whole
I checked it and this one in particular was kinda soft in the tail
but some shrimp will have sharper hard tails
so probably good idea to cut tail off

dont worry about the size of shrimp pieces and if the fish is breathing fast during a nice feeding. Fish are amazing eater and can fit a disgusting amount of food in there mouth. I rarely hear about fish dieing from choking, though its possible, but HIGHLY un likely and ur dempsys im sure can manage to eat the size they want by ripping it apart.

I get the frozen cocktail shrimp, they're already peeled and you can just chuck them right in.
