Shrimp as Food Question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah, I agree. Shrimp are great as a food. Most fish love em as well, a plus. You can pack some weight on a fish quickly by adding raw shrimp to the diet. I get them at my local grocery. They always have "buy one, get one free" on 1lbs. bags of frozen shrimp with their silly discount cards. Been getting them over a year this way. I bet the red headed kid at the checkout thinks I eat a lot of shrimp, as I usually get 4 bags. :D I just thaw them, grab them by the tail, and pull. The sharp tail part comes right off with the shell. I remove the shell because I've found most of my fish spit out the shell anyway, so it's less mess to clean from the tank.

Yeah i think i am gunna start feeding mine shrimp, and i have the luxury of liveing down buy the dock so i can get them live if i was along with prawns crabs and all sorts of seafood

I see, thanks guys! Im also trying this shrimp idea because i heard that if you feed higher quality foods, there is a higher chance of growth, mate and breed. Although Im not sure if its true

It is true. One of the most important parts of getting fish to breed is high quality nutrition.

What other foods are good for nutrition and higher chances of breeding?

I feed my fish flakes, frzn bloodworms, once in a blue moon feeders brine shrimp,
and now shrimp

Try earthworms (nightcrawlers or red wigglers), and you can gut load crickets or worms by giving them flake food, vitamin suppliments, etc. to eat for a few days before feeding them to the fish.

You can increase the nutritional value of almost any food by adding supplements to it. A good one that I like is Vita-Chem. It adds lipids, aminos, and vitamins. Just soak the food in it, and you're good to go. Although it doesn't say this on the bottle, I recommend storing it in the fridge. After a while, it will turn brown and nasty looking after the seal has been broken, keeping it cool will help keep it fresh.

OH ok THanks! CAn you show me a link to vita-chem? Any other supplements good?
